Chronic Illness: How to Break the Cycle

I have a very important message that I want to deliver:


Just because you’ve always done it that way, doesn’t mean you have to continue doing it that way. Read that again:


Just because you’ve always done it that way, doesn’t mean you have to continue doing it that way! You can be the one who breaks the cycle.


There’s a commonly held belief that we inherit all diseases. And while our genes may predispose us to be more or less susceptible to developing certain diseases, our lifestyle habits can actually steer our bodies toward or from disease. So, you may have inherited genes that make you more likely to develop heart disease, but your lifestyle habits and practices can help you prevent that from happening.


What’s also interesting is that often times we think we inherit disease, but what we actually inherit are the lifestyle practices of our parents and our grandparents. So yes, they do pass on their genes to us, but they also pass down their style of cooking, exercise habits, ways of managing stress, etc. If your parents started cooking a meal by throwing a stick of butter in the pan first, you likely picked that up and learned to cook that way. On the other hand, if your parents were athletes and carved out time each week for running or working out, you likely learned those practices and began to enjoy them as well. Of course, this may not apply to every single person. But how interesting is that to think about?!


An amazing book on this topic, which I highly recommend is “The Disease Delusion: Conquering the Causes of Chronic Illness for a Healthier, Longer, and Happier Life”

Think about it:

If you not only inherited the genes for developing heart disease but also the same lifestyle practices that contribute to heart disease, you are so much more likely to end up repeating the same cycle as your parents, grand parents, etc.


YOU have the power to break the cycle.


Just because everyone in your family eats or cooks a certain way, doesn’t mean that you have to. YOU can be the first generation when it comes to your health, the same way you can be the first in your family to go to college, start a business, etc!


Just because your parents loved a quick stop at the drive-through doesn’t mean that you have to keep eating fast food. Just because your childhood friends indulged in substances or party habits, doesn’t mean that you have to keep doing that. Just because your family tended to bottle up their emotions rather than talking about them, doesn’t mean you can’t be the first to make a move and go see a therapist.



You get to decide! How cool is that?!

Easy? No, I wasn’t saying that… but amazing?! Absolutely!

+ You then get a code to schedule six 1-hour sessions, at your convenience, over the next 3 months. We'll use these to work on habit-building strategies, tackle mindset blocks, design routines, set mini-goals - whatever your action plan requires!


+ Between appointments, we stay connected! Chat, ask questions, send pictures, get/send voice notes, etc. to help you work through day-to-day challenges, shift your mindset, create new routines, and tackle your goals with as much support as you need.


+ PLUS, you will get added to "Be Well Together," my membership community with videos, recipes, forums, and workshops, for 4 months. (I tack on a bonus month at the end to help with your transition out of the 1:1 relationship.)
